Kids are like Flowers - Sugartree Lane Preschool

At Sugartree Lane, your child's safety is our top priority. That’s why every team member who works with children must complete a full safety check, including a police vet and a thorough risk assessment, before they start. These checks aren’t just a one-off; they’re repeated every three years to ensure ongoing peace of mind.

We also keep detailed records of these checks as part of our commitment to transparency and best practice.
You can rest assured knowing we’re fully aligned with ECE regulations and always advocating for what matters most—the safety and wellbeing of your tamariki.

Seon | Centre Manager | Registered Teacher

Kia ora, I’m Seon. With over 13 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, I have been fortunate to spend much of my career in leadership roles, guiding and nurturing dedicated teams. What I’ve valued most in my career is working with dedicated teams and creating inclusive, welcoming environments where relationships are at the heart of teaching and learning.

My philosophy is simple: lead with kindness, embrace manākitanga, and build spaces where tamariki and whānau feel respected, supported, and a true sense of belonging. I find real joy in seeing tamariki thrive and celebrate their achievements, and I hold a special commitment to walking alongside whānau, particularly those with additional needs.

Sol | Registered Teacher

Kia ora, I’m Sol, originally from Chile. My teaching journey began at New Plymouth Montessori School, followed by six years at Auckland’s Best Childcare Centre in the Preschool room. For the past four years I’ve been part of the Sugartree Lane team in the Huhu Room, and I’ve also relieved across a range of centres in Auckland. Being a mum to triplets, has given me an added insight into children’s play, learning, and behaviour.

I see children in a holistic way, connected with their family, culture, and spirit. Building strong, trusting relationships with tamariki and whānau is central to my practice, and I value open communication with parents to meet each child’s needs. I love following children’s interests, celebrating their milestones, and supporting their mana, confidence, and self-esteem as they grow into lifelong learners..

Juliet | Head Teacher (Pūriri Room) | Curriculum Lead

Kia Ora Koutou and Vanakam! I began my journey in Early Childhood Education in 2019 as a student teacher here at Sugartree Lane, and I’ve grown alongside the team and tamariki ever since. My practice is especially guided by celebrating differences, respecting one another, and creating spaces where every child can thrive.

I feel drawn to supporting children with neurodiversity and continue to grow my knowledge of Te Reo Māori and tikanga. These passions shape how I teach and lead, helping me foster an environment where tamariki are respected, celebrated, and supported with confidence.

Connie | Head Teacher (Huhu Room)

Kia ora, I’m Connie. Originally from Taiwan, I’ve lived in New Zealand with my husband since 2004. I hold a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Teaching and a Certificate in Primary Education, and since 2011 I’ve worked as a baby and toddler teacher. I’m passionate about supporting tamariki in their first 1000 days, a key time for brain development, and I prioritise building strong, respectful relationships with children and whānau.

I believe teaching should be grounded in respect, trust, empathy, equity, and dignity. I love the diversity of our Sugartree Lane community, where every family brings their own values and perspectives. I am motivated by seeing tamariki grow with confidence and always keep their best interests at the heart of my practice.

Alice | Registered Teacher

Kia ora, I’m Alice. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at NZTC and began my journey as a reliever while studying. For the past two years I’ve been teaching at Sugartree Lane, where I’m passionate about supporting children’s wellbeing and helping them develop independence in their everyday learning.

I believe in nurturing both the emotional and physical wellbeing of tamariki, while encouraging them to grow in confidence by doing things for themselves. I love the joy children bring each day, and I value the way we, as teachers, can also learn from them. Being part of such a supportive and fun team makes my mahi even more rewarding.

Mandy | Registered Teacher

Kia ora, I’m Mandy. I completed my Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education at the University of Canterbury in 2023 and have been part of Sugartree Lane since then. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts from Xiamen University and am a certified yoga teacher with the American Yoga Alliance, with a special passion for Kids Yoga.

I believe all children are capable and confident learners. My goal is to create a safe, nurturing environment where tamariki feel loved, respected, and supported to explore and grow at their own pace. I love building warm, trusting relationships with tamariki and their whānau, and I find real joy in seeing children’s personalities blossom as we learn and grow together.

Hridya | Assistant teacher

Kia ora, I’m Hridya. I’ve been part of Sugartree Lane since 2018, and over the years this centre has become a true second home for me. I came to Aotearoa from Kerala, India, with a Master’s in English Literature and a Bachelor’s in Education, and I now balance my work here with being a proud parent of two. That perspective has deepened my understanding of children’s learning journeys and the trust families place in us as teachers.

What I love most about teaching is sharing in the everyday joys, watching personalities shine, hearing laughter fill the room, and celebrating the small achievements that mean so much. For me, teaching is about connection: being present with tamariki, building relationships with whānau, and creating a place where everyone feels they belong.
