Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

Please feel free to have a look at our fee structure: here.

What age can my child enrol in daycare?

Any child from birth up to age six can enrol at early childhood services in New Zealand. Many centres, including ours, set their own processes and may use waitlists during busy times.

What documents will I need to provide?

We’ll ask you to complete an enrolment form and provide:

  • Proof of your child’s identity and citizenship (e.g. birth certificate, passport);

  • Immunisation records;

  • Any relevant medical information (e.g. allergies, medications).

How do you support settling in?

We tailor settling-in plans to fit each child, typically starting with short visits alongside whānau, gradually increasing in length until the child feels secure enough to stay on their own.

Is there a transition period before my child starts fully?

Yes! We set a start date for a gentle transition, where families visit as many times as needed so tamariki can become confident before independent days begin.

How can I ensure the centre is safe and well-staffed?

We maintain a low child-to-teacher ratio, our staff hold early childhood training and certifications, and we have stringent health, safety, and emergency protocols, including CPR training. Feel free to come in and check out our policies for more info.

What should I ask or look for when visiting centres?

Many parents wonder about:

  • Staff training and credentials;

  • Fee structure, including any extra charges;

  • Ratio of children to educators;

  • Daily routines and curriculum balance between play and learning;

  • Communication methods (daily updates, apps, etc.);

  • Allergen and health policies.

How do you communicate with whānau about their child's day?

We value open, honest, and frequent communication, via daily summary chats, photos, or messages on Storypark.

Will my child learn academic skills or just play?

We believe in learning through play, a Te Whāriki-aligned approach, where children naturally develop literacy, numeracy, and social skills through exploration and guided experiences. We also run a ‘transition to kura’ programme that focusses on helping gain necessary skills for starting school.

What about transition anxiety and separation?

We understand it can take time for children to feel secure. Starting with parents present, we offer multiple visits and gradually encourage independent time when your child shows readiness. Role-playing and positive language at home also help ease this change.

Do I need to pack nappies and food?

No need, we provide both nappies and healthy meals for all tamariki. If your child has specific dietary needs or preferences, please talk to us. We’re happy to work with you to make sure your child feels comfortable, safe, and well cared for.
