Meet Our Team

A shield emblem with a large checkmark inside. Below the shield, the words"SAFETY CHECK" are written in bold, colorful text, with "SAFETY" in pink and "CHECK" in orange.

At Sugartree Lane, your child's safety is our top priority. That’s why every team member who works with children must complete a full safety check, including a police vet and a thorough risk assessment, before they start. These checks aren’t just a one-off; they’re repeated every three years to ensure ongoing peace of mind.

We also keep detailed records of these checks as part of our commitment to transparency and best practice.
You can rest assured knowing we’re fully aligned with ECE regulations and always advocating for what matters most—the safety and wellbeing of your tamariki.

Seon, Centre Manager at Sugartree Lane Preschool. Registered teacher and very experienced kaiako

Seon | Centre Manager | Registered Teacher

Kia ora, I’m Seon. With over 13 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, I have been fortunate to spend much of my career in leadership roles, guiding and nurturing dedicated teams. What I’ve valued most in my career is working with dedicated teams and creating inclusive, welcoming environments where relationships are at the heart of teaching and learning.

My philosophy is simple: lead with kindness, embrace manākitanga, and build spaces where tamariki and whānau feel respected, supported, and a true sense of belonging. I find real joy in seeing tamariki thrive and celebrate their achievements, and I hold a special commitment to walking alongside whānau, particularly those with additional needs.

Sol, registered teacher at Sugartree Lane Preschool. Works in the huhu room with infants mostly. Originally from Chile

Sol | Registered Teacher

Kia ora, I’m Sol, originally from Chile. My teaching journey began at New Plymouth Montessori School, followed by six years at Auckland’s Best Childcare Centre in the Preschool room. For the past four years I’ve been part of the Sugartree Lane team in the Huhu Room, and I’ve also relieved across a range of centres in Auckland. Being a mum to triplets, has given me an added insight into children’s play, learning, and behaviour.

I see children in a holistic way, connected with their family, culture, and spirit. Building strong, trusting relationships with tamariki and whānau is central to my practice, and I value open communication with parents to meet each child’s needs. I love following children’s interests, celebrating their milestones, and supporting their mana, confidence, and self-esteem as they grow into lifelong learners..

Juliet, the head teacher in the Pūriri room. Responsible for curriculum oversight. Experienced and kind teacher.

Juliet | Head Teacher (Pūriri Room) | Curriculum Lead

Kia Ora Koutou and Vanakam! I began my journey in Early Childhood Education in 2019 as a student teacher here at Sugartree Lane, and I’ve grown alongside the team and tamariki ever since. My practice is especially guided by celebrating differences, respecting one another, and creating spaces where every child can thrive.

I feel drawn to supporting children with neurodiversity and continue to grow my knowledge of Te Reo Māori and tikanga. These passions shape how I teach and lead, helping me foster an environment where tamariki are respected, celebrated, and supported with confidence.

Connie is a registered teacher in the Huhu room. Mostly looking after the infants and toddlers. Very experienced teacher.

Connie | Head Teacher (Huhu Room)

Kia ora, I’m Connie. Originally from Taiwan, I’ve lived in New Zealand with my husband since 2004. I hold a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Teaching and a Certificate in Primary Education, and since 2011 I’ve worked as a baby and toddler teacher. I’m passionate about supporting tamariki in their first 1000 days, a key time for brain development, and I prioritise building strong, respectful relationships with children and whānau.

I believe teaching should be grounded in respect, trust, empathy, equity, and dignity. I love the diversity of our Sugartree Lane community, where every family brings their own values and perspectives. I am motivated by seeing tamariki grow with confidence and always keep their best interests at the heart of my practice.

Alice, registered teacher in the Pūriri room. Kind and thoughtful and very good with tamariki. Alice is originally from China.

Alice | Registered Teacher

Kia ora, I’m Alice. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at NZTC and began my journey as a reliever while studying. For the past two years I’ve been teaching at Sugartree Lane, where I’m passionate about supporting children’s wellbeing and helping them develop independence in their everyday learning.

I believe in nurturing both the emotional and physical wellbeing of tamariki, while encouraging them to grow in confidence by doing things for themselves. I love the joy children bring each day, and I value the way we, as teachers, can also learn from them. Being part of such a supportive and fun team makes my mahi even more rewarding.

Mandy is a registered teacher in the Huhu room, mostly working with the infants and toddlers. She enjoys yoga and is very experienced.

Mandy | Registered Teacher

Kia ora, I’m Mandy. I completed my Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education at the University of Canterbury in 2023 and have been part of Sugartree Lane since then. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts from Xiamen University and am a certified yoga teacher with the American Yoga Alliance, with a special passion for Kids Yoga.

I believe all children are capable and confident learners. My goal is to create a safe, nurturing environment where tamariki feel loved, respected, and supported to explore and grow at their own pace. I love building warm, trusting relationships with tamariki and their whānau, and I find real joy in seeing children’s personalities blossom as we learn and grow together.

Hridya is a teaching assistant who works full time with is. She is from India originally and she is cal, patient and kind.

Hridya | Assistant teacher

Kia ora, I’m Hridya. I’ve been part of Sugartree Lane since 2018, and over the years this centre has become a true second home for me. I came to Aotearoa from Kerala, India, with a Master’s in English Literature and a Bachelor’s in Education, and I now balance my work here with being a proud parent of two. That perspective has deepened my understanding of children’s learning journeys and the trust families place in us as teachers.

What I love most about teaching is sharing in the everyday joys, watching personalities shine, hearing laughter fill the room, and celebrating the small achievements that mean so much. For me, teaching is about connection: being present with tamariki, building relationships with whānau, and creating a place where everyone feels they belong.

Angela | Centre Cook

Kia ora, I’m Angela. I joined Sugartree Lane after several years as a chef in some of Auckland’s busiest kitchens, including Novotel, Cordis, and SkyCity. I trained at AUT with a Bachelor of Culinary Arts and bring a strong respect for food, routine, and care into everything I cook

I love making meals that help people feel settled and looked after, and I’m excited to bring that care to our tamariki. I work calmly, stay organised, and enjoy being part of a team that supports each other

Outside the kitchen I enjoy art, animals, and learning languages. I wanted. I’m looking forward to making mealtimes a happy, relaxed part of each child’s day here at Sugartree Lane Preschool.

We are frequently looking for passionate people to join our team of
experienced and dedicated early childhood professionals.

Jonathan & Malcolm | Centre Directors

Kia ora! We’re the directors of Sugartree Lane and we share a deep love for creativity, storytelling, and how children learn through play. Malcolm works as a television editor and children’s book author, while Jonathan is a professional musician with the Auckland Philharmonia. Between us, we bring a strong creative lens into everything we do at the centre.

Our goal at Sugartree Lane is simple. To create a place where tamariki feel safe, curious, and excited to learn, and where whānau feel confident in the care their children receive. We believe in strong relationships, clear communication, and a centre that feels warm, calm, and well run every day.
